# 93 Gesture Index **Idea.** A drawn shape can be a precise invitation to an existing collection. **Composition.** A large pale drawing field holds charcoal strokes, small numbered specimen marks and a handwritten-seeming retrieval trail. Shape buttons provide an equally visible alternative to drawing. **Navigation and complete example.** Draw a line on the canvas or choose arch, zigzag, loop or branch. A small deterministic classifier retrieves original objects from a labelled fixture set; inspect records and save a constellation. **Responsive and inclusive behaviour.** The SVG drawing pad uses pointer capture and a bounded drawing surface. All retrievals are also available through native shape buttons, with no drawing requirement. All controls are native buttons or labelled inputs. Movement is discretionary, no sound starts automatically, reduced-motion preferences remove transitions, and a direct index exposes the same content. **Adaptation.** Keep the relationship between query shape and retrieved content legible. Explain the classifier’s limits instead of implying a general visual search engine. Retain the relationship between navigation and content. Do not reduce the reference to a generic hero followed by interchangeable cards. **Research.** [Zach Lieberman / Data Arts Team — Land Lines](https://experiments.withgoogle.com/land-lines). Only history navigation and optional local storage come from useSpecimen.ts. The ZIP contains the helper, runnable project, fonts, original source, all captures and their checksums. Local font files retain their OFL notices. CSS/SVG artwork is MIT; any photographs retain the notices in assets.json and THIRD_PARTY.md.
