# 43 Y2K Chrome **Philosophy and fit.** Present culture as a luminous piece of digital equipment. Suitable for electronic music labels, nightlife programmes, experimental fashion, and creative release collections. **Visual grammar.** Compose a central media module with asymmetric side controls, metallic dividers, translucent inset panels, pill-shaped switches, and compact release metadata. Use an extended display face, a straightforward sans serif for details, cool silver, deep navy, and electric cyan. Chrome belongs to framing and highlights; long text sits on a calm solid surface. **Specimen and flow.** _Signal Mesh_ is a fictional electronic music label. Browse its release strip, open an album, and select a track for an explicitly initiated preview. Supporting views are artist credits and the player’s paused or unavailable-preview state. Local licensed audio is an optional specimen asset. **Mobile and motion.** Stack the release controls above a persistent compact player. Replace decorative moving reflections with static gradients under reduced motion; playback never starts automatically. **Identity and effort.** Preserve equipment-like composition and material contrast; avoid tiny controls, low-contrast metallic copy, and a generic gradient landing page. **Effort: medium.** ## Implemented sample Signal Mesh is an expansive, bounded design reference. All organisations, events, prices, statistics and research claims are fictional fixtures. The page includes a complete primary composition and two local supporting routes that show its interaction and content hierarchy. ## Defining features - Equipment-like composition - Chrome framing around calm text surfaces - Explicit, opt-in playback controls ## Adaptable choices Brand, subject, accent and equivalent licensed typefaces can change. Preserve composition and navigation. Do not turn the hierarchy into a uniform collection of cards. ## Tokens and typography Heading: Space Grotesk. Reading: DM Sans. Local WOFF2 fonts with system fallbacks. Page #ced5df; surface #e7edf1; text #1d2943; accent #20627a. Eight-pixel base spacing; reading measure 65ch; width 1240px. See tokens.css for role values and Demo.vue for composition. Palette and type match the working specimen. ## States - Entry: /preview/43-y2k-chrome/start - Artist and production credits: /preview/43-y2k-chrome/credits - Selected track / unavailable preview: /preview/43-y2k-chrome/player ## Neighbours and adaptation - [38 Pixel Arcade](../38-pixel-arcade/DESIGN.md) uses arcade selection list beside a framed preview window and visible cartridge buttons and event details. This reference keeps central metallic media equipment with an asymmetric release strip and inset controls and release selection, track list, and artist credits. - [17 Observatory](../17-observatory/DESIGN.md) uses aligned analytical plots on a dark instrument surface and persistent station/interval controls and an equivalent data table. This reference keeps central metallic media equipment with an asymmetric release strip and inset controls and release selection, track list, and artist credits. ## Assets See [asset record](../../../docs/ASSETS.md). All vector diagrams and sample writing are original to this repository. Photos are illustrative, not evidence of the fictional brands. Font faces: Space Grotesk, DM Sans. ## Verification Reviewed working sample. Browser checks cover entry-page reflow at 320, 390, 768, and 1440 pixels, keyboard entry, direct routes, and automated accessibility; both supporting routes are checked at 390 pixels. Capture metadata is stored in public/previews/43/capture.json and names the source content hash. Accessibility scans are supplementary; no formal WCAG certification or field-performance claim is made.
